Hello, Black Girl!
I’m your Purpose Coach, Bailey Orenia, and I’m here to empower you to breathe beyond exhaustion, restore your purpose, and thrive in the spaces God has called us to be.
Let’s start with a question:
Did you know your faith and courage directly impact your growth?
Let me take you back 20 years. I was working as a makeup artist from home, but I felt the call to do something more, so I opened my own studio. It was unfamiliar territory. I didn’t have a huge clientele and I didn’t have all the answers. But I did have courage. And I had faith that my God-given talent was enough to carry me into the next chapter of my calling.
So I stepped out. I signed a three-year lease, opened my makeup studio, and showed up and did the work. Slowly, clients came. And along the way, God gave me opportunities to not only beautify women on the outside, but also minister to their spirit.
That season taught me something powerful. When we move with courage, we grow and others grow because of it.
Why God Calls Women Like Us to Be Brave
Let’s talk about Queen Esther for a moment.
She was living in comfort at the palace when she learned her people (the Jews) were facing annihilation. Queen Ester had two choices: stay silent and safe, or risk her life to approach the king uninvited (a move that could cost her her life). Esther’s decision didn’t just shape her story, it changed the course of history for an entire nation.
That’s what courage does. It multiplies. It shifts atmospheres. It opens doors, for you and for the generations to come.
Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s choosing faith over fear, even when the stakes are high.

The Courage Cultivation Challenge (3 Simple Steps)
Now, let’s get practical. Here’s your challenge for this week. This is a simple but powerful 3-step process to grow your courage muscle:
1. Name Your Fear.
Where is fear stunting your growth? Write it down in your journal. Whether it’s fear of failure, judgment, or stepping into a new season, name it.
2. Find Your Mirror in the Bible.
Look for a woman in scripture who faced similar fears. Was she like Esther, afraid to use her voice? Was she like Ruth, unsure of where she was going but willing to trust God?
3. Take One Small Step.
Make one courageous move this week. It could be a phone call, a new boundary, or saying “yes” (or “no”) to something that stretches your faith. Remember: Courage isn’t a feeling. It’s action in spite of fear.
And here’s a journal prompt for your quiet time:

Faith + Courage = Transformation
Your life will only go as far as your faith and courage will stretch you.
But here’s the truth: Your courage doesn’t come solely from you. It comes from the God who walks with you. Like Ruth, who told Naomi:
She stepped into the unknown and became part of something much bigger than herself—a story that would lead to the birth of Jesus. That’s how courage works. You won’t always see what’s coming. But trust, God sees it all.
A Prayer for the Journey
Heavenly Father, Give us the courage to bloom where You’ve planted us. When fear tries to keep our roots shallow, deepen our trust. When doubt tempts us to shrink back, remind us of the brave women who came before us. May our courage honor You as we grow into all You’ve called us to be. Amen.
In our next blog post, we’ll explore how to tend to the emotions that arise in these brave spaces, because growth takes both courage and emotional wisdom.
Until then, if someone asks you to do something that doesn’t serve you well, just say, “That is not my ministry.”
Love you!
