Hello Black Girl! You know, rejection can be one of the hardest things to face, but what if I told you it could be a blessing in disguise? Rejection often means that God has something better in store for you. It’s not punishment; it’s His protection and redirection. Today, I’m going to help you understand how to recognize divine redirection in your life and how to embrace it instead of fighting it.
A Personal Story of Redirection
Years ago, I was praying for a certain production gig that I really wanted. I thought it was a great opportunity of a lifetime, but when I didn’t get it, I was in my feelings, to say the least. But, I found out from some of the crew members that the production wasn’t organized, and some people didn’t even get paid. That experience taught me an invaluable lesson: God knows better than I do.
Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Even rejection works for our good. When a door closes, or one doesn’t even open, what if it’s not punishment, but God’s protection? He knows that down the road, something better is coming.
How to Recognize Divine Redirection
So, how do you know when rejection is actually God’s protection and redirection? Here are three signs to watch for:
Persistent Peace Despite Disappointment
Even though you may feel the sting of rejection, you might notice a deep sense of peace lingering. This doesn’t mean you won’t feel hurt, but there’s a comfort mixed with the pain. This is a sign that God is redirecting you, and He is with you in this transition.
New Opportunities Start Arising
God doesn’t just close one door without eventually opening another. After a rejection, watch for new opportunities that pop up—opportunities you never even imagined. Maybe it’s a new job offer, a new relationship, or a new project that aligns more with your purpose.
Divine Redirection Aligns with Your Purpose
Sometimes, we think we’ve missed out on something great, but God knows that what we think is best might actually pull us away from our true calling. That dream job you didn’t get may have led you down a path that wasn’t aligned with your purpose. That relationship that ended might have been compromising your integrity and the essence of who God created you to be.
This pattern of rejection and redirection is seen all throughout Scripture. Consider Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers, falsely accused, and thrown into prison. Each rejection directed him toward his ultimate destiny as second in command of Egypt. Moses had to flee Egypt and spend 40 years in the wilderness before he was ready to lead the Israelites to freedom. God’s hand was on them both, even in the midst of rejection.
Trusting the Process
Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. This is the better than you can ask for principle. When doors close, remember that God is preparing you for something greater than you could ever imagine.

Applying Redirection to Your Life
Now, let’s take a moment to apply this understanding of redirection in your own life. Here’s a simple 3-step reflection exercise to help you process rejection and trust God’s plan:
Step 1: Grab your journal and ask yourself: What doors have closed that I’ve still been trying to force open? Maybe it’s that relationship you keep trying to resurrect. Girl, it’s time to let it go. Or perhaps it’s a job opportunity that didn’t work out the way you expected. Write it all down. Acknowledge that God might be protecting you from something you didn’t even know was harmful.
Step 2: Practice gratitude by reflecting on past redirections. Look back in your life and identify at least three times when something didn’t work out, but it led to something better. This exercise will build your faith muscle and help you trust God’s redirection.
Step 3: Use a simple prayer framework to surrender to God’s redirection: “Guide my eyes to see the better path that you have for me. Lead me where you want me to go.”
Trust God’s Better Yes
When we understand that rejection is actually God’s protection and redirection, we can begin to trust the process. Every “no” is clearing the path for God’s better “yes.” Trust His plan, and know that He is preparing you for something better than you could ever imagine.
In the next episode, we’ll dive into the courage you’ll need to walk through those new doors that God is about to open for you.
As always, when someone asks you to do something that doesn’t serve you well, just tell them, “That is not my ministry.”
Love you!
